Two middle school teachers in California, Elizabeth Mirabelli and Lori Ann West, have filed a civil suit against their school district. Their complaint alleges that school officials at Rincon Middle School in Escondido, California asked teachers not to disclose to parents if their child assumes a different gender identity at school, unless the student gives consent.

What’s worse, if they were to be asked, they still are not allowed to give an honest answer. In the name of wokeness, they have to withhold crucial information about a child from their parent, and answer ‘it is outside the context of this meeting’.

The school policy also called for teachers to use the students’ ‘preferred pronouns’ in school, but revert back to their pronouns matching their biological sex if family members were around. These directives referred to children in grades K-8, meaning from kindergarten to 8th grade, so early teenagers at the oldest.

The suit was filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of California in late April, against 22 defendants, all administrators in the Escondido Union School District (EUSD) or the California State Board of Education.

One of the plaintiffs, Mirabelli, talked to Fox News about taking her school leadership to court. She said:

‘The district, my employer, is violating my constitutional rights: my freedom of religion, they are forcing me under threat of termination to lie to the parents that I serve. And the second, of course, is the free speech piece.’

She also went on to state that her Christian faith was a big contributing factor to her objection to the policies. Her attorney, also present at her interview, added that the school board officials are ‘compelling Elizabeth to speak in a way that violates her faith, and to express views that she disagrees with’,

emphasising the First Amendment concerns of the school policy.

The main catalyst for this lawsuit was a presentation held in February 2022, to the school district’s staff. Apart from the directive to withhold information from parents about their children, it included other, similarly controversial statements, such as that an underaged student’s ‘assertion is enough to determine gender identity’, and not respecting a student’s gender identity would be considered harassment. The content of the presentation has been obtained and published by Fox News Digital.

Hungary’s Child Protection Law

Hungary passed its Child Protection Act in June 2022, prohibiting the teaching of gender theory and the promotion of gender transition in schools. The Orbán administration has seen an onslaught of international scrutiny since. Currently,

Hungary is being sued in the European Court of Justice by the EU Commission,

challenging the legality of the bill. The lawsuit is officially supported by 15 EU member states.

A common objection to the Act among domestic opposition figures is that it exaggerates the threat of gender indoctrination in schools, arguing that it is not a feasible thing to happen. However, despite their denials, it is in fact happening in some Western countries, as evidenced by the story above. Another article published on our website writes about the case of Chloe Cole, an American 18-year-old activist who went started her transition to become a boy at age 12. However, she has deeply regretted the life-changing decision she was allowed to make as a pre-teen, and has been campaigning for the banning of such procedures on children.
