‘It is clear that the unhindered influx of masses of illegal arrivals, aided by criminals, and then the processing of asylum applications within the EU is a failure of failures,’ György Bakondi expressed on public M1 television.

The elements of the migration pact are not forward-looking, and they do not serve the security and are not in line with the interests of the European people, Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister György Bakondi stated on public M1 television on Saturday evening.

György Bakondi emphasized that the Hungarian government has done everything possible until the last moment to prevent the adoption of the migration pact, adding that they hope for a new European Parliament and European Commission to change this. Bakondi said that the migration pact, adopted in December, consists of nine regulations, and the final wording is currently being worked on. The text of the legislation is expected to be adopted in March or April, followed by its enforcement.

There are two reasons why the left-liberal majority wants to accept the pact quickly, the Security Advisor said. One is the increasingly negative effects of illegal migration since 2015, which has led to a decline in the willingness of European people to help. Bakondi cited violence against women, deterioration of public safety, and ghettoization as examples that had reached the threshold of influencing public opinion. One of the reasons is that with this legislation, the liberal-left majority wants to demonstrate that they have recognized the population’s demand and are doing everything to control external borders, prevent the inflow of and impose conditions to tighten migration. Additionally, the current EP majority wants to push the legislation through before the European Parliament elections.

Bakondi stressed that none of the points of the pact are acceptable to Hungary.

‘It is clear that the unhindered influx of masses of illegal aliens, aided by criminals, and then the processing of asylum applications within the EU is a failure of failures,’ he expressed. He added that it was clear that the vast majority of those arriving did not meet the conditions to be granted refugee status.

In fact, with the pact, ‘they want to force nation-states to accept the policies of the EP, in other words, they want to dictate to us whom we should admit,’ he said. He also highlighted that this is a quota-based distribution and if Hungary does not want to accept the number of migrants it is allocated, the state will have to pay nine million forints for each migrant not admitted.

He mentioned that according to the pact, in a crisis situation, an unlimited number of arrivals may be distributed among the Member States, but the law does not clearly define what a crisis is. The chief security advisor also pointed out that reception camps should be set up along the external borders of the European Union, including in Hungary, to provide for and support thousands of illegal immigrants.
