In spring, prominent representatives of world music will perform at the Bartók Béla National Concert Hall, while the summer festival season will be inaugurated by the Hey, June! series, featuring a reunion performance by the Amorf Ördögök band on the Müpa stage–Müpa Budapest announced on Thursday.
The opening concert of the Hey, June! series on 1 June will feature the Amorf Ördögök band reunited after seven years: Szabolcs Tariska, Ambrus Tövisházi, Bori Péterfy, and their fellow musicians will compile the programme from the material of their three albums, with guest appearances including János Kulka–the statement reads.
The Slow Village band has created their performance titled ‘Slow Palace’ for the Müpa evening on 2 June, which serves both as a summary and reinterpretation of everything created by one of the most popular domestic teams in old-school hip-hop.
András Áron & the Black Circle Orchestra will perform on 6 June; the band will select songs from their 2023 album, The Moment, recorded in Nashville with producer Derek Garten for their Budapest concert, the statement said.
On 7 June, Zsófi Szigeti ‘Solére’ will perform, followed by the conclusion of the Hey, June! series with a concert by Samurai Drive and the Crazy 88, where Nóvé Soma and Dániel Riederauer’s songs, with the help of several collaborating musicians, will be presented in a unique arrangement.
Pianist Benoit Sourisse and drummer André Charlier, along with their band, the Multiquarium Big Band, will perform the entire film score of the Oscar-winning movie Whiplash during their two-part concert on 17 May, combined with a film screening.
In spring, several representatives of the world music genre will visit Müpa, including some who have never been to Hungary before: firstly, the Portuguese singer-songwriter, Mariana Secca, known as MARO, whose first Budapest performance on 28 April will feature songs from her album ‘Hortela’ accompanied only by three acoustic guitars.
Also performing for the first time in Hungary on 1 May is the five-time Grammy-winning artist of African music, Angélique Kidjo. The singer will present material from her latest album, Mother Nature, which showcases the nuances of the African diaspora, from Afrobeat rhythms to griot traditions and hip-hop.
On 14 May, during the concert of Saiid Tichiti’s band, Tariqa, promoting Moroccan gnawa culture, Asmaa Hamzaoui and her band, Bnat Timbouctou (Timbuktu Girls) will be the guests, joining Tariga on stage for several songs, as stated in the press release.
Bea Palya, as part of her ongoing series called ‘Selymeim,’ invites significant and inspiring female performers from various parts of the world to her concerts. This time, on 21 May, Dafne Kritharas, born in Paris, will be her guest, bringing songs from Greek, Sephardic Jewish, Bosnian, Armenian, and Turkish cultures to the Hungarian audience, as Müpa stated on Thursday.
