Jeremy Wayne Tate, founder and CEO of the Classic Learning Test, recently posted on his X feed ‘Florida is to America what Hungary is to Europe, an example of a better way to do pretty much everything’.

He did so in response to a tweet by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, in which he shared a clip of a press conference about Florida being ranked as the #1 state in the US in higher education by U.S. News for the second year in a row.

‘The other thing I’ve been seeing this morning, U.S. News: “Florida #1 in education”. And you could tell that they didn’t want to admit that because “oh, they’ve been controversial in education,” yet the data is very clear,’ Governor DeSantis said at the press conference.

The controversy Governor DeSantis referred to there is the substantial backlash he got from the liberal mainstream media for his 2022 Parental Rights in Education Act, restricting the teaching of modern gender theory in public schools.

Parallels between him and the conservative administration of Prime Minister Orbán of Hungary have been drawn since the passing of that bill.

Many believe that it was—at least in part—inspired by Hungary’s 2021 Child Protection Act.

Tate, drawing a comparison between Governor DeSantis and PM Orbán again, is an expert in the field of education. He created the Classic Learning Test, a new alternative to the SAT and ACT exams in the United States. He was also one of the featured speakers at the MCC Budapest Summit on Education in February 2024. He appeared on a panel discussion about the different ways to assess a student’s success.

So, Tate has the expertise to judge the level of education in a country or state, his praise of the Floridian and Hungarian education system carries weight.

‘No state has done more to close the achievement gap in education than Florida, congrats governor, another huge win,’

he finished his message on X to Governor DeSantis.
