Good news for Hungarian families planning to install a modern solar power system: the budget for the Solar Energy Plus Programme is being significantly increased by 30 billion HUF, as announced by the Ministry of Energy announced on Monday.
State Secretary Attila Steiner noted in a video posted on social media that the government will support households with up to 5 million HUF per property in the production and storage of green energy through the popular programme. He pointed out that the application process began with pre-registration in January this year, the first funding decisions were made in February, and payments started in May. To date, more than 18,000 projects have been awarded funding under the Solar Energy Plus Programme, nearly exhausting the original 75.8 billion HUF budget, said the State Secretary.
As a result, the pre-registration process will be suspended from Tuesday evening, Steiner Attila announced, highlighting that
to cover the existing applications, the Ministry of Energy is increasing the programme’s budget by 30 billion HUF.
The average grant request currently amounts to around 4.1 million HUF, and with the additional funding, more than 25,000 families could receive state support, instead of the originally estimated 15,000.
He emphasized that pre-registration applications must be submitted by Tuesday, 9 July 2024, via the NFFKÜ’s electronic platform.
The government is encouraging related developments for families and businesses with a total of over HUF 230 billion, including the budget increase for the ongoing programmes, Attila Steiner said in the video on the ministry’s social media page.
In a comment attached to the post, the Ministry of Energy highlighted in an accompanying statement that the Solar Energy Plus Programme contributes to strengthening Hungary’s energy sovereignty and domestic supply security. They also noted that the total installed capacity of domestic solar power has exceeded the previously targeted 6,000 megawatts for 2030 this spring. The National Energy and Climate Plan, currently under review, now anticipates twice this capacity, 12,000 megawatts, by the early next decade. Based on known development plans, this target is likely to be achieved. There are more than 271,000 household-sized solar power plants operating in Hungary, with a total installed capacity of nearly 2,500 megawatts.
