As of 1 August 2024, HungaroControl Ltd came under the indirect supervision of the Ministry for National Economy (NGM), with its primary responsibility being the maintenance of a high level of aviation safety, the ministry announced on Thursday.
According to the statement by the ministry, the primary strategic goal of HungaroControl is to ensure the safe and smooth flow of air traffic. The NGM highlighted that—under the ‘guidance of Minister Márton Nagy’—HungaroControl’s priorities include significantly improving the quality of Hungarian air transport, closely cooperating with the European air navigation organization Eurocontrol, and more effectively representing Hungarian interests.
Additionally, one of the key tasks is to stabilize the substantially increased transit traffic at a manageable level and, if necessary, review and modify the future fee structure.
HungaroControl also places great emphasis on strengthening and further developing its professional and human resources activities, as well as establishing a strategic and professional partnership with Budapest Airport Ltd, which has recently come under majority state ownership. The effective management of HungaroControl is essential for the optimal operation of the airport,
which is crucial for maintaining passenger satisfaction and boosting Hungarian tourism.
The seamless coordination of air traffic allows for the maximum utilization of the airport’s capacity and serves as a basis for further substantial developments. This, in turn, is a fundamental prerequisite for the development of tourism infrastructure and the country’s economic growth in the long term.
To effectively achieve these goals, Ferenc Turi was appointed as the company’s CEO as of 1 August 2024. The work of the previous CEO, László Tóth, has been appreciated and thanked, and he is leaving by mutual agreement, according to the statement.
Ferenc Turi brings more than 40 years of professional experience in various areas of aviation. Throughout his career, he served as a regional director in Chicago and later as a commercial and marketing director for Malév. Subsequently, he was managing partner at the consultancy firm Roland Berger. Recently, he has taken on strategic advisory roles in several significant aviation projects.
