RTL Hungary has entered a strategic agreement with the 4iG Group, which will see 4iG become the exclusive telecommunications provider for RTL Hungary’s streaming service, RTL+, in the Hungarian market starting 1 January 2025, according to a statement from 4iG on Tuesday.

As per the agreement, customers of the 4iG Group—which includes Vodafone Hungary and DIGI—will be able to access the full range of RTL+ content from a single television platform, possibly as part of their subscription. Additionally, the two companies have agreed on the distribution of RTL Hungary’s 12-channel portfolio, including four new second-generation channels launched by the media company in December 2023. RTL will continue to be available through the free-to-air mindigTV service, according to the statement. Furthermore, the 4iG Group is planning to introduce new TV subscription packages under its new One brand, which will include access to RTL’s streaming service.

Based in Budapest, 4iG is a Hungarian-majority-owned company and one of the leading integrated telecommunications and IT service providers in Hungary and the Western Balkans region. The group is also involved in the space industry and defence technologies. Listed on the Budapest Stock Exchange, 4iG employs over 8,000 people across Hungary, Montenegro, Albania, and Israel.

What is interesting about the agreement is that RTL has a rather critical-of-the-government editorial stance, and has regularly published stories about 4iG being close-to-the-government and having been apparently disproportionately aided with government financing.
