Hungarian Gripen fighter jets are currently participating in the Ramstein Flag 24 air defence exercise in Greece, according to Honvedelem.hu.
This nearly two-week exercise is designed to enhance the operational capabilities of NATO allied forces, improve decision-making in dynamic combat scenarios, and foster stronger cooperation among member nations.
The exercise serves as a demonstration of NATO’s ongoing commitment and readiness to defend against any potential threats. According to the Alliance’s portal, Ramstein Flag 24 marks the first time NATO’s air force has taken part in such an advanced air exercise alongside partners from outside the region. It provides the participating nations with an opportunity to practice defence against Europe’s most complex threats and to ensure that NATO’s air force can deliver the high level of capability required to protect the Alliance.
A total of twelve NATO members are involved in the live-fire, multinational exercise, which is being hosted by the Hellenic Air Force.
During the first half of October more than 130 fighter and support aircrafts, along with Maritime, Land, and Special Operations Forces, will execute integral components of Joint Air Power.
The Hungarian Air Force previously participated in a NATO exercise at the end of May during the Lion Effort exercise in the Czech Republic. That event involved around 500 military personnel, including about 150 international participants, and featured the Hungarian Defence Forces’ JAS-39 Gripen aircraft in collaboration with the Czech hosts and new NATO member Sweden.
