Weerts Logistics Park has inaugurated a nearly 40,000 square metre, eco-friendly production facility in Vecsés for Canadian automotive parts supplier Magna International. The over 57-million-euro project utilizes cutting-edge sustainable technologies, including energy-efficient systems and rainwater recycling, ensuring green energy support throughout its operations.

The Belgian-Hungarian-owned Weerts Logistics Park (WLP) has opened a sustainable, 40,000 square metre production facility in Vecsés, a small town in the vicinity of Budapest, developed for Magna International, one of the world’s largest automotive suppliers. According to Weerts Logistics, the total investment reached over 57 million euros, with Magna further contributing to the manufacturing equipment. WLP retains ownership of the facility, leasing it to Magna under a long-term agreement.

Key sustainable features of the facility include a rainwater recycling system and advanced energy-efficient technology. Waste heat generated by machinery is integrated into the building’s heating system, while solar panels are being installed across the roof to support the entire facility with green energy. WLP noted its commitment to rigorous environmental monitoring to ensure that operations have no adverse environmental impact.

WLP has also prioritized community relations and the needs of local residents. To reduce noise pollution, an earth embankment planted with trees and shrubs has been built around the facility. This natural barrier not only surpasses traditional noise-reduction walls in effectiveness but also enhances local biodiversity.

Strategically located with direct connections to motorways M0, M3, M4, and M5, the plant enjoys proximity to Budapest’s Liszt Ferenc International Airport. The Vecsés location allows for easy commuting from nearby towns and Budapest’s 18th district, aiding recruitment. The new facility is expected to stimulate the local economy by creating jobs and supporting regional economic growth, with production projected to begin by late 2025.

Weerts Logistics has developed over 200,000 square metres of facilities across Hungary over the past six years, creating 905 jobs and hosting numerous Hungarian firms. The company also boasts over 1 million square metres of high-tech logistics investments across Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Germany, the UK, and Italy, solidifying its role as a leading logistics developer in Europe.
