European Best Destinations has named the Budapest Advent Basilica Christmas market the best European Christmas market of all time. The renowned culture and travel website hailed the market as an enchanting initiative in the heart of the Hungarian capital, applauding its commitment to sustainability and the charitable events it organizes during Advent.
‘If you’re in search of the premier Christmas market in Europe, look no further than the Advent Feast Basilica in Budapest. Awarded four times in competitions that attract millions of travelers, this enchanting market is the brainchild of renowned Hungarian entrepreneur Tibor Krsko, whose childlike spirit infuses the event with magic. Not only does the market create a festive atmosphere, but it also supports charitable initiatives and champions sustainable development,’ the article states.
The report highlights the local craftsman exhibitors, Hungarian culinary delights, the charming ice-skating rink, heartwarming musical performances, and various charity programmes, all complemented by delightful surprises throughout the season.
The site’s authors ranked the Zagreb and Gdańsk Christmas fairs in second and third place, respectively.
As reported by Hungarian Conservative, the Advent Basilica Christmas Market in Budapest opened on 15 November. Visitors are welcomed by a stunning 12-metre Christmas tree and a variety of cultural performances throughout the season. The stage features gospel, folk, jazz, and funk performances, providing a vibrant musical backdrop to the market. Every evening from 5:30pm, a captivating 3D light projection illuminates the Basilica’s façade. It’s worth noting that the Advent Basilica Christmas Market has been voted Europe’s best Christmas market four times.
However, the Advent Basilica is not the only Christmas market worth visiting in the Hungarian capital. At Vörösmarty Square, holiday cheer abounds with its own Christmas tree, a free children’s mini-train, and a demonstration workshop where blacksmiths showcase their craft. Just like at the Advent Basilica, Vörösmarty Square features Hungarian artisans and food vendors offering festive treats and handcrafted goods. Both markets also provide a daily dish available at a fixed price of 1,600 forints, ensuring an affordable option for visitors.
