Budapest police officers have donated over nine tonnes of non-perishable food and treats to help those in need. The contributions, including baby food and festive goodies, will be distributed to children’s homes, large families, and care centres.

The Budapest Police Headquarters (BRFK) has successfully collected more than nine tonnes of non-perishable food for those in need, as announced on police.hu on Tuesday.

The donations, contributed by BRFK officers, included essential food items alongside baby food, chocolate, festive sweets, hazelnut spread, and other treats. The collected items were transported by trucks to the Hungarian Food Bank Association. From there, they will be distributed to children’s homes, elderly care centres, large families, and individuals with disabilities.

The annual donation drive saw particularly strong participation this year. The 7th district Police Station claimed the top spot for the most generous contributions, followed by the 15th district Police Station in second place, and the Traffic Police Department in third.

The donations were formally handed over by Brigadier General Attila Markó, Deputy Chief of Police for Budapest, to András Nagygyörgy, Director of External Relations for the Hungarian Food Bank Association, in a ceremony on Tuesday.

This initiative reflects an ongoing tradition of generosity from Budapest’s police officers. Over the past five years, BRFK staff have collected more than 35.5 tonnes of donations, demonstrating their dedication to supporting the most vulnerable members of society.

The food drive highlights the critical role community-focused initiatives play in addressing local needs, particularly during challenging times. Through their continued efforts, Budapest’s police force is making a tangible difference in the lives of many.
