Bryan E. Leib, a potential successor to outgoing US Ambassador David Pressman, has voiced sharp criticism on social media of the US administration’s recent sanctioning a key Hungarian politician. Leib expressed optimism for improved ties under Trump’s leadership in his commentary.

American political analyst Bryan E. Leib, who currently serves as a Senior Fellow for the Center for Fundamental Rights, and is a possible candidate to succeed David Pressman as the US Ambassador to Hungary, has openly criticized Pressman’s tenure, describing his actions as a disgrace to American diplomacy. His latest criticism is directed at the Biden Administration’s decision to place Antal Rogán, a high-ranking Hungarian official, on a sanctions list.

In a social media post Leib denounced the move as a politically motivated act that undermines the credibility of American diplomacy. He argued that the decision is not only an attack on the Hungarian government but also detrimental to the United States’ diplomatic integrity.

This is absurd and 100% politically motivated! I wouldn’t be surprised if @USAmbHungary is… pic.twitter.com/fsBONGqdiY / X”

This meddling will come to a full stop on 20 January 2025!,’ Leib wrote, alluding to the anticipated positive impact of Donald Trump’s leadership. Leib expressed confidence that under Trump’s administration, the strained relations between the two nations could transition into a more cooperative and mutually beneficial partnership.

The analyst also referenced past messages directed at Pressman, accusing him of causing significant harm to US–Hungary relations. In one of his statements, Leib addressed Pressman directly, urging him to stop what he is doing. ‘Shame on Pressman for this politically motivated act. While I and no one speak for President Trump, I believe that on 20 January when he becomes our 47th POTUS–we will return to the golden age of USA-Hungary relations!’ he wrote.

As Pressman’s tenure concludes, Leib’s critical stance and optimistic outlook reflect broader expectations for a shift in US–Hungary relations under a new administration. The potential diplomatic changes could signal a fresh start, aiming to mend rifts and foster stronger bilateral ties.
