The Texhibition, a key event in Budapest’s cultural calendar, marks its tenth anniversary with an extraordinary exhibition running from today until 19 January at FUGA. Organized by Noémi Ferenczy Award-winning textile artist Szilvia Szigeti and interior designer Tamás Radnóti, the Texhibition was founded a decade ago as part of the Határtalan Design international exhibition series. Its mission is to spotlight textile designers and the creative and industrial potential of the medium.

This year’s exhibition is divided into three sections. The first features the works of Polish textile artists, previewing one of the central themes of the 21st Design Without Borders exhibition. Highlights include Aleksandra Gaca’s intricate woven pieces, Piotr Skowron’s geometric abstractions, Zuzanna Wójcik’s jacquard weaves, Paulina Soltyszewska’s hand-printed fabrics, and Falbanka Studio’s screen-printed designs. Additionally, unique works by students from the Łódź Academy of Fine Arts, including Agata Szostak, Katarzyna Glinska-Hyclak, and Marta Chrobak, will also be displayed.

The second section builds on last year’s music-inspired series, which commemorated the centenary of composer György Ligeti. This year, 20 textile artists collaborated with eight composers to create digital textile prints inspired by musical works featured in the CentriFUGA programme of the Transparent Sound New Music Festival. These textiles, displayed together, form a visual melody reminiscent of sheet music. Visitors will have the opportunity to hear the corresponding compositions at the exhibition’s closing event.

The final section offers a retrospective of the past decade, featuring a representative selection of textiles created during the Texhibition’s history. These include both industrially produced materials and unique, handcrafted pieces, underscoring the project’s focus on collaboration between designers and manufacturers.

Over the past ten years the Texhibition has showcased approximately 400 works by 100 artists, fostering prototypes that bridge artistic vision and industrial feasibility. The initiative supports both established designers and emerging talents, providing annual opportunities for 4–5 young textile artists to exhibit their work. International collaboration is also encouraged, with foreign artists regularly invited to participate.

Since 2018, the Texhibition has awarded the Design Without Borders Prize to recognize outstanding achievements in textile design, further emphasizing the importance of visibility and patronage in the field.

In addition to the exhibition, visitors can attend guided tours led by curators, beginning with a special session this afternoon. Notable events include a lecture by Aleksandra Gaca and contemporary music concerts on January 17 and 19.

As it celebrates its first decade, the Texhibition continues to champion textile design as an innovative and culturally significant art form, offering audiences a unique blend of tradition, experimentation, and collaboration.
