Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on Monday, 20 January 2025. In his second inaugural address, Trump referred to his inauguration as the ‘liberation day of the United States’ and declared that ‘the golden age of America begins right now.’
‘From this moment on, America’s decline is over,’ the newly inaugurated president told the audience gathered inside the Capitol Rotunda for a scaled-down ceremony, necessitated by dangerously cold weather outside. The last time an inauguration was held indoors was in 1985, when Ronald Reagan was sworn in.
In his address, Trump pledged to tackle the country’s border crisis, reduce inflation, end costly green initiatives, and restore national unity. He also made bold promises, including reclaiming Greenland and the Panama Canal, renaming the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America, and sending astronauts to Mars. ‘We will pursue our manifest destiny into the stars, launching American astronauts to plant the Stars and Stripes on the planet Mars,’ he proclaimed.
Trump further vowed to dismantle what he described as the ‘radical and corrupt establishment’ and to restore trust in federal institutions and the government. ‘My recent election is a mandate to completely and totally reverse a horrible betrayal—and all of these many betrayals that have taken place—and to return to the people their faith, their wealth, their democracy, and indeed, their freedom,’ he highlighted.
Back to Work
After the ceremony, Trump immediately got to work, signing a series of executive orders. Several of these focused on addressing domestic issues. For example, as he repeatedly promised during his campaign, he issued pardons for approximately 1,500 individuals who had been convicted or criminally charged in connection with the 6 January 2021 Capitol riots. Additionally, Trump declared a national emergency at the US-Mexico border and announced plans to deploy troops to assist with the deportation of illegal migrants. The president also declared an energy emergency and vowed to eliminate Biden’s electric vehicle mandate. Furthermore, he began rolling back diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs within the federal government.
‘Trump rescinded sanctions on Israeli settlers in the West Bank’
There were also executive orders concerning foreign policy. According to The Jerusalem Post, Trump rescinded sanctions on Israeli settlers in the West Bank. As promised, he withdrew the United States from the Paris climate accords and the World Health Organization (WHO). He also ordered a comprehensive review of US foreign aid spending. These decisions align with his ‘America First’ approach to international relations.
Taking Back Brussels
Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán, a long-time ally of President Trump, was quick to offer his congratulations. In a post on X, he wrote: ‘Now it’s our turn to shine! It’s our turn to occupy Brussels!’
Prior to the inauguration, Orbán attended a conference on the achievements of Hungary’s EU Presidency, where he also addressed the matter. ‘The Western world now has a patriotic, peace-loving, migration-rejecting, family-oriented president in Washington. In just a few hours, even the sun will shine differently over Brussels,’ he declared. ‘A new president in America, a strong patriotic faction in Brussels, great enthusiasm, proven patriots who love their homeland—thus, the grand offensive begins: I hereby launch the second phase of the operation aimed at taking Brussels!’ Orbán proclaimed.
He further stated that with Trump’s inauguration, the radical progressive establishment’s headquarters had effectively shifted to Brussels, asserting that it is now the responsibility of European patriots to clear them out.
In a Facebook video, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán expressed his expectations for President Trump’s second term, stating that he anticipates peace, stability, and economic recovery—an outcome ideal for Hungary.
On 21 January the Hungarian PM posted again on X, stating that the executive orders Trump signed ‘will transform not only the Us, but the entire world’.
‘The executive orders President Trump signed will transform not only the US, but the entire world’
Hungarian Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó also commented on the first executive orders signed by President Trump. ‘Donald Trump’s first executive orders make it clear that the pro-war, pro-migration, pro-gender frenzy is over, and the era of peace, security, national sovereignty, and common sense has arrived,’ he remarked.
Szijjártó highlighted Hungary’s significant struggles in recent years to resist the ‘insane measures’ of the progressive agenda being forced upon the country. He added that with the shift in US leadership, those challenges are now behind them. ‘Hungary will strengthen its political aspiration to live in peace here in Europe, to respect national sovereignty for all, and to uphold the family as the foundation of society,’ he declared.
