‘It is clear that the city of Kecskemét and Hungary as a whole will profit greatly from the cooperation with Mercedes’, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó of Hungary stated in a Facebook post on Friday, 24 January.
Earlier this week, the Foreign Ministry revealed in a press release that Minister Szijjártó was meeting with Jörg Burzer, the executive in charge of the Production, Quality and Supply Chain Management Division at the German auto car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz Group. After their meeting, he shared this message with his audience on social media:
‘The long-term partnership between Hungary and Mercedes is an important foundation for the growth of the Hungarian economy in the transition to the new automotive era. Mercedes regards its Kecskemét plant as a project of great importance for the company, and thus they are continuously increasing its capacity and the number of employees.
Mercedes will continue to bring cutting-edge automotive technology to Hungary, thus strengthening the country’s competitiveness and contributing to the Hungarian economy becoming one of the most modern economies in the world’.
Mercedes’ plant in Kecskemét, Hungary—a city of around 110,000 people 53 miles Southeast of Budapest—opened in 2008, and currently employs around 4,500 people.
