Minister of Defence Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky of Hungary has announced that 5,000 new recruits have signed up for the Reserves of the Hungarian Defence Forces, which, as he pointed out, is a testament to the success of the ‘I love it, I defend it’ campaign started by his Ministry in June.

‘Patriotism is unstoppable,’ Minister of Defence Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky of Hungary wrote in a press release by his Ministry on Tuesday, 8 April. He issued the communiqué on the occasion that the Reserves for the Hungarian Defence Forces has added 5,000 new recruits in the last ten months.

This shows the success of the ‘I love it, I defend it’ campaign by the Defence Ministry, he pointed out. The initiative was launched in June 2024 to drum up recruitment in the Reserve Forces.

Hungarian Army Reservist Recruitment Programme Adds 2,000 New Soldiers

‘By mid-August, we had reached the 4,000-mark, and by April we had exceeded 5,000 people who had joined the Hungarian Defence Forces. This is not only a numerical achievement, but also a sign of increasing solidarity, community responsibility and camaraderie,’ Minister Szalay-Bobrovniczky wrote in the statement.

He went on to share that 400 of the newly recruited reserves have decided to join the armed forces on a full-time contract.

The employer may claim compensation from the Hungarian Defence Forces for the conscripted reservist, provided that an agreement is reached and the employer guarantees to ensure that the employer can complete their service for the Territorial Defence Reserve, Minister Szalay-Bobrovniczky added.
