Donald Trump Jr, the eldest son of US President Donald Trump, is visiting Hungary this week as part of a broader Eastern European tour, Bloomberg has reported. According to the outlet, Trump Jr will begin his business trip in Budapest, where he is scheduled to meet Gellért Jászai, Chairman of Hungarian telecommunications operator 4iG, on Friday.
The main objective of the visit is to explore business opportunities in the region. During the trip, the president’s son will attend events under the headline ‘Trump Business Vision 2025’. In addition to Hungary, he will also travel to Romania, Bulgaria, and Serbia.
Trump Jr serves as Executive Vice President of the Trump Organization but holds no official position in the Trump administration or the US government. His Eastern European visit is of a private nature, according to Bloomberg, which cites anonymous sources familiar with the matter.
A Returning Guest in Budapest
Nonetheless, the outlet also reports that Trump Jr is expected to meet with several politicians ‘in an effort to boost ties to like-minded groups’, a rationale that helps explain the choice of Eastern Europe as the focus of the trip. Support for his father’s policies remains significantly higher in this region than elsewhere in Europe. While in 2016 it was almost exclusively Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán who endorsed Donald Trump’s presidential ambitions, recent years have seen a right-wing resurgence across Eastern Europe, with conservative, national-sovereigntist movements gaining momentum.
At present, it is unclear whether Orbán or any other Hungarian government official is scheduled to meet Donald Trump Jr. During his previous visit to Budapest in early 2024, the president’s son met Prime Minister Orbán at the Carmelite Monastery. Their discussions reportedly covered US–Hungary relations, illegal migration, and the prospects for peace in the Russo–Ukrainian war, among other topics. Trump Jr also delivered a lecture at Mathias Corvinus Collegium (MCC), where he praised many of Orbán’s policies and described the prime minister as someone who always puts ‘Hungary First’.
A Hungarian Success Story: 4iG
Since Donald Trump’s re-election, Hungarian–American relations have visibly improved— both politically and economically. American businesses have reported a ‘vibe shift’ in Hungary’s investment climate, embracing the new realities, as US Chargé d’Affaires ad interim Robert Palladino highlighted during a recent panel discussion. However, the much-anticipated Hungarian–American deal, often referenced by Viktor Orbán, has yet to materialize.
4iG has emerged as one of Hungary’s most dynamically expanding technology companies in recent years, particularly under the leadership of Gellért Jászai. He has overseen a series of domestic and international acquisitions that have established the company as a significant player not only in Hungary but also across the Western Balkans.
The group’s most high-profile acquisition to date was the 2023 purchase of Vodafone Hungary, a move that positioned 4iG among the largest telecommunications companies in the country.

Additionally, 4iG has entered into a strategic partnership with German defence company Rheinmetall, which now holds a 25 per cent stake in the firm. The company is also an active participant in the space and defence industries, most notably through the HUSAT satellite programme—the first privately initiated satellite project in Central and Eastern Europe.
In March 2025, Jászai was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary upon the recommendation of Hungarian Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó. His mandate includes promoting Hungary’s economic interests abroad, identifying investment opportunities, and cultivating international business relations.
Jászai was also part of the Hungarian delegation that accompanied Prime Minister Orbán to former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida in December 2024, where Orbán conducted his second peace mission regarding the war in Ukraine. US billionaire Elon Musk was also present at the meeting, which addressed not only geopolitical issues but also the future of Hungarian–American cooperation in space technology and the development of Hungary’s space industry. The discussions focused particularly on 4iG’s satellite programme, advancements in artificial intelligence, and broader opportunities for commercial and technological collaboration between Hungary and the United States.
