This year’s St Stephen’s Day fireworks will be made spectacular by the use of fireworks mortars, grapeshot, Roman candles, Greek fire, spark fountains, and flame effects. More than 29,000 pyrotechnic products will be launched from approximately 500 launch points—including nine river barges, 65 pontoons, and the Liberty, Elizabeth, and Margaret Bridges.

On 20 August, over 45,000 individual pyrotechnic effects will be displayed along the nearly five-kilometre-long spectacle area stretching from Petőfi Bridge to the lower third of Margaret Island. In addition to the fireworks, there will also be a drone show and light projections, the organizers informed on Thursday.

How Did the Bridges of Budapest Get Their Name?

According to the statement, ‘the designers have taken special care to ensure that guests, regardless of where they stand along the nearly five-kilometre-long spectacle area, will enjoy a nearly identical visual experience.’ The same applies to the drone show that complements the fireworks, featuring

1,300 unmanned aerial vehicles that will depict the most defining symbols of Hungarian history.

‘This year, the play of fire and lights will once again narrate the most important events in Hungarian history through the perspective of a well-known character from national folklore,’ an old shepherd: ‘the stories of the Miracle Stag, Attila, Prince Csaba, the Hungarian conquest, and King St Stephen, the founder of the state’ will be displayed, the organizers explained. In addition to familiar pieces from Hungarian folk song tradition, the musical accompaniment will also feature works by Hungary’s greatest composers, Ferenc Liszt and Zoltán Kodály.

According to the statement, Europe’s largest fireworks display is once again being envisioned and orchestrated by renowned experts such as laureate of the Montreal's International Fireworks Competition Anikó Seres; Dániel Besnyő, responsible for light projections and spectacle design; as well as Árpád Iványi and Barnabás Réti, who prepared the artistic concept.
