A renowned travel magazine has ranked Budapest as the second most friendly city in Europe, with only one city surpassing the Hungarian capital on the list. Although nearly three months remain in the year, it is fair to say that the peak travel season has ended. This is the time when many annual travel rankings are compiled, based on experiences and feedback from the past year. The prestigious Condé Nast Traveller has already released its top lists for 2024, with Budapest earning high marks.
The magazine, which previously named Budapest’s Zrínyi Street one of the most beautiful streets in the world, gathered input from half a million readers to award a host of accolades. From a Hungarian perspective, the categories of Best Cities in Europe and Friendliest Cities in Europe are particularly noteworthy, as Budapest made it to the top tier in both.
In the overall rankings, the Hungarian capital secured sixth place with a score of 89.86 out of 100, not far behind the top-ranked city, Valencia, which earned 92.78 points. According to the magazine, Budapest, known as the ‘City of Spas’, offers much more than the world recognizes. In addition to its famous wellness scene, it appeals to history enthusiasts with its castles and museums. The city’s vibrant ruin pubs were also highlighted as an enjoyable option for a casual night out.
Budapest ranked even higher on the list of Europe’s friendliest cities. Stockholm, which also placed second among the best cities overall, took the top spot with a score of 94.07. Right behind it, however, is Budapest, scoring an impressive 91.88. The magazine attributed the city’s friendliness to the pride locals take in showing visitors what to see and experience, making them feel welcome throughout their stay.
