According to a survey by travel portal WyAway, Budapest is considered to be the third safest city in the world for solo female travellers. In global comparison, the Hungarian capital was only preceded by Reykjavik and San Juan in Puerto Rico.
The website compared a total of 200 cities to determine the 30 safest major cities for women. The results are based on interviews with local residents and the latest safety statistics.
The list of top three cities is as follows:
- Reykjavik, Iceland
- San Juan, Puerto Rico
- Budapest, Hungary
Other cities on the list include Tokyo, Prague, and Singapore.
According to TimeOut magazine, 24 per cent of female tourists have cancelled trips due to safety concerns related to their chosen destination. Janis Dzenis, PR and Communications Manager at WayAway, speaking about the list and women’s travel habits, told the magazine: ‘Increasing the sense of security for female travellers is not only a moral imperative but also an economic one. Businesses that can offer better security guarantees to female travellers can increase their popularity among a segment that makes up half the world!’
