Under its capacity as the President of the Council of the European Union, Hungary hosted the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) conference in its capital city of Budapest last week, 30–31 October. EASA was founded in 2002 as the aviation safety agency of the European Commission and is headquartered in Cologne, Germany.

Its Budapest conference was organized by the Ministry of Construction and Transport of Hungary. The emphasis was placed on the essential impact of human factors in ensuring safe operations at the event.

The key subjects of the two-day conference comprised runway safety and tackling Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) interference. Attendees also investigated long-term strategic challenges, including the use of artificial intelligence (AI), extended minimum crew operations (eMCO), and innovations focused on enhancing sustainability in the aviation sector, according to the Hungarian Presidency’s official website.

The event was hosted at the conference centre of the National Bank of Hungary in Budapest, commencing in the afternoon of 30 October, followed by a dinner and social event at the notable Royal Riding Hall. The evening provided an excellent opportunity for attendees to strengthen professional ties and lay the groundwork for future collaboration.

On 31 October, a full day of detailed professional sessions enabled participants to explore the latest technological advancements and safety solutions, while promoting international cooperation within the aviation industry.

Hungary is occupying the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU between July and December 2024.
