The EDUCATIO International Education Exhibition, Hungary’s largest event of its kind, opens its doors this Thursday, presenting a vibrant showcase of opportunities for students. Minister for Culture and Innovation Balázs Hankó highlighted the event’s aim to inspire young people with exciting prospects for further education and career development.
Held at Budapest’s Hungexpo across two pavilions and spanning over 20,000 square metres, the event will host more than 100 exhibitors. Universities, vocational training centres, and companies will present the benefits of higher education, student experience, and career pathways. The organizers anticipate 50,000–60,000 visitors.
Minister Hankó emphasized the tangible benefits of earning a degree in Hungary, noting that university graduates enjoy approximately 1.5 times higher wages. He revealed that Hungarian higher education is thriving, with over 100,000 applicants annually, a total of 328,000 students enrolled, with 46,000 of them being international.
Additionally, around 260,000 students benefit from scholarship programmes amounting to 100 billion forints annually. Hungarian universities are steadily climbing global rankings, underscoring their commitment to excellence.
‘Brussels unjustly sidelined Hungarian students, but the government responded with the Pannonia Scholarship Programme’
Addressing a controversy surrounding the Erasmus programme, Hankó criticized the European Union’s decision to exclude Hungarian students from participating. Speaking on Kossuth Radio, he accused Brussels of using Hungarian students as political pawns.
‘Brussels unjustly sidelined Hungarian students, but our government responded with the Pannonia Scholarship Programme. This initiative has already enabled 3,000 students to study at prestigious foreign universities with higher grants, surpassing Erasmus,’ the minister stated.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to empowering young Hungarians, asserting, ‘The success of Hungarian youth strengthens the Hungarian economy.’
As the EDUCATIO Expo coincides with university application season, Minister Hankó reminded prospective students of the upcoming deadline for university applications: 15 February. Applications must be submitted exclusively via the electronic portal.
The EDUCATIO Expo promises to be a hub of inspiration and information, guiding students toward a future filled with opportunities in education, innovation, and beyond.
