Hungary’s FILMIO streaming platform concluded 2024 with outstanding results, marking a year of significant growth in user engagement and audience reach, the National Film Institute (NFI) announced.
FILMIO is a streaming platform launched by the NFI. It serves as a dedicated online hub for Hungarian cinema, showcasing a wide array of films ranging from digitally restored classics to contemporary releases. The platform was designed to preserve and promote Hungary’s rich cinematic heritage while making it accessible to audiences both domestically and internationally.
The platform’s library of around 1,000 films was streamed 234,712 times last year, reflecting a 20 per cent increase compared to 2023. Additionally, the number of unique users rose by over 13 per cent, highlighting FILMIO’s growing popularity among Hungarian film enthusiasts.
FILMIO continues to draw audiences with its rich collection of Hungarian cinema, offering both the latest films and digitally restored classics. Among the highlights of 2024 was the Hungarian Animation 110 anniversary, during which viewers could enjoy iconic animated films for free throughout the year.
The platform also ran a festive campaign titled ‘Gifting You with Your Favourite Hungarian Films’, allowing free access to hundreds of titles during the holiday season. This initiative saw over 91,000 streams. FILMIO is gearing up for another successful year in 2025. Fans can also look forward to the latest animated films, short films, and theatrical releases. FILMIO’s 2025 line-up promises to delight long-time cinema enthusiasts and new audiences alike.
FILMIO’s role extends beyond entertainment; it is a cornerstone in fostering a collective appreciation for Hungarian culture, storytelling, and artistic expression.
