The National Heritage Institute (NÖRI) will observe All Saints’ Day on 1 November at the Fiumei Road Cemetery in Budapest, featuring extended opening hours, choral concerts, and a commemorative Mass. Visitors will also have the opportunity to place candles on the graves of notable Hungarian historical figures.

NÖRI will welcome visitors on 1 November with live music to mark the occasion, continuing a long-standing tradition. The day’s events will begin at 3pm with a special Mass held at the cemetery’s Holy Cross, followed by choral performances at 4pm in front of the Malosik Mausoleum. These concerts will feature choral works on the theme of mortality, performed by the Budaörs Ferenc Sapszon Choir (conducted by Gáspár Krasznai), the Amadeus Choir (conducted by Monika Réger), and the Vox Hungarica Women’s Choir (conducted by János Döbrössy), as noted in NÖRI’s announcement on Monday.

This year the Institute has also reintroduced the ‘Place a Candle on the Graves of National Figures’ programme, allowing visitors to commemorate Hungarian poets, writers, and statesmen. Candles and a map to assist visitors can be obtained from the Info Point at the cemetery entrance.

As in previous years, the Fiumei Road Cemetery will observe extended hours for All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day. The cemetery will be open from 7am to 8pm from 28 October to 3 November, and from 7am to 6pm between 4 and 6 November.

While mausoleums and the cemetery office will remain closed during the three-day holiday, visitors can consult the Info Point with inquiries regarding burial sites. Parking within the cemetery grounds will be free from 28 October to 3 November. Additionally, on 1 and 2 November, NÖRI will provide free shuttle bus services within the cemetery from 8am to 7 pm for visitors in need of assistance.
