‘This forum, which is scheduled for 6 May 2025, will be a major opportunity for anyone who can make it to learn from and consult with significant Hungarian figures from the public and private sectors.’

This should be on the radar of anyone invested in the latest green technologies and their commercial applications: the third edition of the Miskolc Campus Forum ‘Green and Smart’ will be taking place soon at the University of Miskolc. This forum, which is scheduled for 6 May 2025, will be a major opportunity for anyone who can make it to learn from and consult with significant Hungarian figures from the public and private sectors.

As heir both to the Mátyás Rákosi Technical University of Heavy Industry and to the School of Mining and Metallurgy originally founded in Selmecbánya in 1735, the University of Miskolc, founded in 1949, is a tremendous player in the world of applied sciences.

According to the University of Miskolc itself, ‘in 2025, the Forum provides an opportunity for the representatives of economic and social life, politics as well as science to discuss the question of how a university and higher education can be a motor of business service centres’.

What to expect from this 3rd edition

As per its confirmed programme, available on the university’s website, the theme of the 3rd edition of the Miskolc Campus Forum ‘Green and Smart’ will be: ‘Higher Education as a Motor of Business Service Centres’.

The day is to start with greetings from Prof Dr Zita Horváth, Rector of the University of Miskolc, an accomplished historian well-versed in the history of the peasantry, particularly in 18th-century Hungary.

The forum proper is to begin with a panel discussion entitled ‘Two Cities, Shared Visions: Miskolc and Debrecen as Regional Business Hubs’. Guest speakers are to include:

  • József Tóth-Szántai, Mayor of Miskolc, whose population currently stands at 143,500 inhabitants;

  • and Prof Dr Zoltán Szilvássy, the Rector of the University of Debrecen, Hungary’s oldest continuously operating institution of higher education, founded in 1538.

The forum is to continue with a panel entitled ‘University Technology Transfer for a Green and Digital Economy — Regional Solutions, Common Future’ with the participation of the Technology Transfer Centres of Debrecen and Miskolc, followed by a panel entitled ‘Innovate and Elevate: University Innovation Fair for Local Business Growth’, focusing on the development of business service centres at the local level and including the presentation of student projects.

Following a ceremony to start the afternoon, a keynote presentation is to be delivered on the titular topic of ‘Higher Education as a motor of business service centres’ by László Csíki, Startup Director at the Hungarian Innovation Agency (Nemzeti Innovációs Ügynökség or NIÜ).

The NIÜ is a government organization established in 2021 to strengthen Hungary’s innovation ecosystem by supporting startups, facilitating international market access, and promoting a culture of innovation through programmes, partnerships, and funding initiatives.

A panel discussion is to follow, entitled ‘Stakeholder Views — Why the University of Miskolc?’ Guest speakers are to include:
