Catholic kindergartens will be able to accommodate fourteen thousand more children with the support of the Catholic Kindergarten Programme, including the creation of new places for four thousand children,’ Secretary of State for Churches, Minorities and Civil Affairs Miklós Soltész announced on Thursday in Dombóvár.

Miklós Soltész emphasized on the occasion of the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the new building of the Saint Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Kindergarten in Dombóvár that the kindergarten programme represents a significant step forward in the lives of Hungarian families. The programme is not only implemented in Budapest and major cities, but also in several smaller towns and villages, he added. He noted that the Catholic Church commemorates two early Christian martyrs, Saint Perpetua and Saint Felicity. Their story illustrates well that

the teachings of Christ considered women as equals

in a world where women and children were not seen as such. Respect for women, care for children, and the support of poor families stem from Christian values and teachings, the State Secretary stated. ‘Therefore, no matter how much they try to smear us, attempt to undermine Christian teachings, we must reject that. We must do what Christianity has been doing for two thousand years; we need not heed the relatively loud minority attacking Christianity,’ Soltész concluded.

State Secretary for National Policy Árpád János Potápi spoke, among other things, about how

Hungary, just like in the Middle Ages, continues to do a lot to defend Christianity today.

‘We want to preserve the traditional world order based on Christian values; if we do not do this, Europe will remain merely a geographical concept and lose the cultural surplus it has achieved over the past millennia,’ he opined. He added that in recent years, Dombóvár has represented this value system through its institutional network. ‘We do good by showing people a way out and guiding society in a direction that strengthens our traditional world order, and our national and Christian upbringing,’ Potápi stated.

Mayor of Dombóvár Szilárd Pintér spoke about how after the kindergarten, a Catholic nursery may also be built in the city by 2025. Bishop László Felföldi from the Diocese of Pécs blessed the kindergarten.

Diocesan Head of Public Education Roland Koósz said that the 1800-square-metre kindergarten building accommodating four groups will be completed on 13 December with a government support of 2.2 billion forints.
