Recently, an image of a triangular picnic table on the Hungary–Austria–Slovakia border tripoint has garnered quite a bit of attention on X (formerly Twitter). What made the table so unique is that one of its chairs is in Hungary, another chair is in Austria, while the third chair is located in Slovakia.
Hence, the caption on the image reads ‘People in Slovakia, Austria, and Hungary can sit and eat at the same table without leaving their countries!’

The famous picnic table is located in the Statue Park in the town of Rajka, Hungary. The fact that it is a picnic table is a clear reference to the Pan-European Picnic in 1989. As the communist regime fell in the Eastern European vassal states of the Soviet Union, the strict border control between Western capitalist and Eastern communist countries was also diminished. The first border to be relaxed was the one between Austria and Hungary. In August 1989 a group of young people gathered at the border near Sopron, Hungary and held a peace demonstration.
In the comments of their X post, VertigoWarrior also shared a number of other interesting locations on various borders between two countries. For example, they posted a picture of the Haskell Free Library and Opera House, which is in part located in Stanstead, Quebec, Canada, and in the other part in Derby Line, Vermont, United States.
