International Authors Gather at the PesText Literary Festival in Budapest

This autumn marks the sixth edition of the PesText International Literary and Cultural Festival, where audiences can meet key figures of contemporary world literature. The festival's primary aim is to provide opportunities for foreign language authors and readers to meet, with special attention given to the literature of neighbouring countries, Eastern and Central Europe, and the Visegrád Four.

Yrsa Sigurdardóttir, Per Petterson, Samantha Shannon, and JD Barker will be participating in this year’s PesText International Literary and Cultural Festival, which will be held from 26 to 28 September at the Három Holló (Drei Raben, Three Ravens) Café , offering not only literary discussions but also workshops, exhibitions, and concerts.

The festival’s primary aim is to provide opportunities for foreign language authors and readers to meet, with special attention given to the literature of neighbouring countries, Eastern and Central Europe, and the Visegrád Four, the organizers said in their statement.

Once again, the event will feature several accompanying programmes. The Deák17 Children and Youth Art Gallery will host the exhibition At the Same Time, In the Same Place — Central and Eastern European Children’s Book Illustrations from 13 September to 26 October. On 20 September, the Hungarian audience will be introduced to a book by Romanian author Doina Rusti, and on 26 September, Czech and Slovak literature will take centre stage in Szeged.

Between 26 and 28 September, conversations will take place at the Három Holló Café in Budapest with Vincenzo Latronico and Krisztián Puskár, Benjamin Chaud and Anna T Szabó, Samantha Shannon and Csilla Kleinheincz, Philippe Brenot and Zoltán Jeney, Gunnar Garfors and Péter Szűcs, Per Petterson and Ádám Vajna, Yrsa Sigurdardóttir and Eszter T Molnár, Fiona McPhillips and Róbert Smid, and Sergey Timofeyev and Anna Terék. As part of the programme, JD Barker will have a conversation with Márton Benedek at the Marczibányi Square Culture Centre.

The organizers will provide translation devices at the events, and there will be opportunities to purchase books, with the authors signing copies at the end of each programme.

The PesText Festival is a partner event of the Budapest International Book Festival, organized by the Hungarian Literary Authors’ Collecting Society (MISZJE) in collaboration with the Petőfi Cultural Agency (PKÜ).
