Hungarian Design Brands Shine at Milan Design Week Showcasing Budapest

An independent exhibition focusing on Hungarian design was presented at one of the world’s largest design events, Milan Design Week, at the Triennale Milano Museum building earlier this week.

Thirteen Hungarian design brands and artists’ works were featured between 15–21 April at the Triennale Milano Museum during Milan Design Week, organized by the Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency (HFDA).

Curated by the renowned Rossana Orlandi, the Design Walk in Budapest exhibition, a concept focusing on the rich cultural heritage of the Hungarian capital, was brought to life. Through the products created in the design LAB curated by Rossana Orlandi, contemporary artistic creations and the cross-section of Hungarian culture was showcased under the Budapest Select umbrella brand for the international audience, informed the HFDA on Tuesday.

One of the four main pillars of the Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency’s strategy is to increase the visibility of domestic designers and facilitate entry into foreign markets, supporting brands with international appearances at design fairs and exhibitions, as stated in the press release. As they write, this year, an independent exhibition focusing on Hungarian design was presented at one of the world’s largest design events, Milan Design Week, at the Triennale Milano Museum building. The Design Walk in Budapest showcased both contemporary design innovations and cultural values simultaneously.

hfdadesign Hungarian designers and artists once again displayed their vision during the largest annual design event, Milan Design Week between 15 and 21 April. The Design Walk in Budapest exhibition of the Budapest Select umbrella brand came to life with the globally recognized Rossana Orlandi at Triennale Milano, fueling inspiration and inviting discovery on a global stage.

The products created within the design LAB curated by Rossana Orlandi framework also caught the attention of the international audience. The Design Walk in Budapest exhibition was recommended by professional magazines such as Dezeen, DesignBoom, and the Italian design publication La Repubblica’s Door. As one of the highlights of the week, Rossana Orlandi personally guided visitors through the exhibition.

The products of the design LAB curated by Rossana Orlandi were inspired by Hungarian cultural heritage, with several designers drawing inspiration from iconic locations in Budapest, which also defined the concept of the Milan exhibition. The exhibition emphasized the unique atmosphere of the city, preserving its diverse historical traditions while embracing modernity. In addition to design objects, contemporary Hungarian fine art creations, sculptures, paintings, and photographs were also on display, they write.

Similarly to last year, the audience could encounter Hungarian works at additional venues. At Rossana Orlandi’s Master Gallery, the exhibition space of the Solinfo Group’s Timbart brand, and the photographs of Zoltán Tombor were featured. The result of the collaboration between Sára Kele and Anna Cserba, MOTO, was presented at the Isola Design Festival, the statement reads.

This year, more than 1,100 events joined the official programme with 838 brands during Milan Design Week, with a 23 per cent increase in online audience compared to last year, attracting 630,000 visitors from 162 countries.
