Fourteen productions will be showcased between 20 and 29 September at the eSzínház (e-Theatre) Festival, with discounted season ticket sales starting on Wednesday.
The organizers announced on Wednesday that Hungary’s only online theatre festival offers performances accessible via individual ticket purchases or season tickets.
Hungarian theatres from within the country and beyond its borders, as well as independent troupes, were invited to submit their performances for the festival. During the festival, viewers will have unlimited access to performances from theatres and troupes such as Örkény Theatre, Csiky Gergely Theatre in Temesvár (Timișoara), Vígszínház, Katona József Theatre, Szeged National Theatre, Madách Theatre, Radnóti Miklós Theatre, Exit Generation, and the KultBazaar Association.
The festival will be accompanied by live and freely accessible online professional discussions with well-known Hungarian actors and theatre directors, including with the creators of Katona József Theatre’s Találkozás (Meeting), which is exclusively available online for the duration of the festival.
The best performances and acting will be awarded by a professional jury, which includes actress Eliza Sodró, dramaturge Tamara Török, director Tamás Puskás, poet-playwright Péter Závada, and Gergely Légrádi, the head of eSzínház. Special awards and audience awards will also be given to outstanding performances.
The eSzínház Festival will allocate a significant portion of its revenue to the participating theatres and troupes, thereby supporting their work and operations.
The festival aims to overcome geographical limitations to showcase the valuable creations of theatres and to demonstrate how performances adapted for online viewing can create new perspectives and approaches, thus providing a unique experience for audiences both within and beyond Hungary’s borders.
