In the Sportgarden, visitors will be able to follow the events of the Paris Olympics and cheer on Hungarian competitors on a giant screen. In addition, various community sports can be tried in the sports park, such as table tennis, teqball, badminton, or basketball.

According to State Secretary for Sports Ádám Schmidt, the Sportgarden, opening in the Holdudvar on Margaret Island this Friday and remaining open until 15 September, offers sport, exercise, community experiences, and exciting, interactive exhibitions for all ages to celebrate the start of the Paris Olympics.

At a press conference on Tuesday, the State Secretary for Sports recalled that the most beloved project of the State Secretariat, the Sporting Nation Programme, was launched last autumn. Its aim is to bring sport closer to people and make regular physical activity a part of their lives. He added that the world’s largest sporting event, the Olympics, offers an excellent opportunity to promote sport. Therefore, the State Secretariat and its background organization, the National Sport Agency (NSÜ), are creating a unique interactive community space on Margaret Island. According to the State Secretary, the Sportgarden welcomes not only those who want to cheer on Hungarian successes in a community setting but also those who would like to try out some sports equipment, learn about the history of the Olympics, or even engage in some physical activity themselves.

Deputy CEO of the NSÜ Péter Berényi referred to the Sporting Nation Programme’s slogan, ‘Sport for a Lifetime’,

which aims to draw attention to lifelong, preferably organized, sports activities.

During the Olympics, everything will revolve around sport, so they have put together programmes that cater not only to older people but also to young people and families.

He mentioned that in the so-called pop-up community space, in collaboration with the Hungarian Olympic and Sports Museum, the temporary exhibition on the history of the Olympics titled Sport Odyssey will open on Friday. This exhibition, using 21st-century digital tools and with a focus on experience, showcases the development of the modern Olympic Games.

Professional leader of the exhibition Soma Szemerey explained that the exhibit, consisting of five units, will offer visitors the chance to see some iconic sports equipment, including the kayak paddle of three-time Olympic champion Katalin Kovács. Sports enthusiasts will also be welcomed with quizzes, memory games, and digital elements.

In the Sportgarden, visitors will be able to follow the events of the Paris Olympics and cheer on Hungarian competitors on a giant screen. In addition, various community sports can be tried in the sports park, such as table tennis, teqball, badminton, or basketball. On weekends, organizers are preparing special programmes, offering the opportunity to handle various sports equipment, such as javelins, discs, and items related to kayaking, rhythmic gymnastics, and fencing.
