‘May you all be inscribed for a good year!’
Last week, Jakov Hadas-Handelsman, the Israeli Ambassador to Hungary, visited Dr Andor Grósz, President of the Federation of Hungarian Jewish Communities (Mazsihisz), in anticipation of the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, which began today.
During the visit, the Ambassador sought to emphasize the unity between the Jewish community in Hungary and the State of Israel. He highlighted that ‘we are one, and our holidays unite us.’ He further underlined the significance of the approaching Jewish New Year as a powerful force of cohesion, particularly in times when not only Israel but also the Jewish people worldwide face attacks. He lamented the fact that this is the first period in 80 years when a wave of antisemitism has swept across the globe once again.
Additionally, the President of Mazsihisz and the Israeli Ambassador discussed the details of a jointly organized memorial event to be held on 7 October.
