Will Smith, the Grammy-winning rapper and Oscar-winning actor, is coming to Budapest this summer for a special concert at Budapest Park on 14 August. The announcement was made by organizers on Friday, confirming that the show will be part of his newly launched Based on a True Story tour.

The concert series marks Smith’s musical comeback after a 20-year break from releasing studio albums. His latest record, which shares the same name as the tour, dropped just last week and features a mix of fresh tracks and collaborations with high-profile artists. Songs from the album will be part of the live show, alongside his classic hits such as ‘Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It’, ‘Miami’, and ‘Summertime’.

Smith’s recent single You Can Make It became a major success, topping both rap and gospel charts—his first chart-topping hit since ‘Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It’. The track debuted at the 2023 BET Awards in a dramatic performance surrounded by a real ring of fire. More recently, he also appeared at this year’s Grammy Awards, paying tribute to his late mentor, Quincy Jones.

The Based on a True Story tour is Smith’s first solo concert tour and includes stops in Morocco, across Europe, the UK, and several major international festivals. For fans in Hungary, this will be his second-ever live performance in Budapest, following a high-energy birthday celebration in front of St Stephen’s Basilica in 2019.

Smith originally rose to fame in the late 80s as part of the duo DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, earning two Grammy Awards for rap performances. He began his solo music career in the mid-1990s and became a household name with hits like Men in Black and albums such as Big Willie Style and Willennium.

While Smith’s music career is legendary in its own right, he is even more widely recognized for his work as an actor and producer. Over the years, he has starred in numerous box-office hits, including Independence Day, Men in Black, Ali, The Pursuit of Happyness, I Am Legend, and King Richard, for which he won the Academy Award. In addition to acting, Smith is also an entrepreneur and best-selling author.

His return to the concert stage is being hailed as a major pop culture moment, and his Budapest show is expected to draw both music and film fans alike.
