Political Director for the Prime Minister of Hungary Balázs Orbán has recently appeared as a guest on the Fox Business show Mornings with Maria, hosted by Maria Bartiromo. He discussed the current state of affairs in the Russo–Ukrainian war in a brief segment of the show.
Mr Orbán started with what he described as ‘the best news’, that is, after three years of no diplomatic contact, negotiations started at last between the United States and Russia about ending the war. He also stated that war has been devastating for Europe and Hungary as well, not just Ukraine; and had adverse effects on the United States too. The ‘warmongerers’ of Europe are now ‘in a state of shock’, he continued. However, the recent developments are very good for the peacemakers of Europe, such as Hungary, which has been advocating for a negotiated peace since the start of the war.
He also added that the liberal plan to win the war has failed completely, with hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians dead, millions fleeing the country, and Ukraine on the brink of bankruptcy. So, now it is time for a different approach. Mr Orbán went on to point out that upon the news that the US and Russia had just started the process for a negotiated peace, energy prices dropped worldwide, while stock indexes rose, which can be ground for great optimism for the near future.
As for the EU, Mr Orbán stated that ‘Brussels is the most isolated power centre in the world right now,’ as they have cut themselves off from Russia, their number one energy supplier, started a trade war with China, and had spent years mocking President Donald Trump, who has now returned to power in Washington, DC.

When asked by the host about President Trump’s aggressive tariff policy, which has caused some concern in Europe, Mr Orbán replied that he has no issue with the United States having an ‘America First’ approach to foreign relations, since that means that Hungary can have a ‘Hungary First’ approach, which, in turn, can be a basis for mutually beneficial trade deals. He also stated that he believes that Europe has ‘a leadership problem’ right now, with big nations such as France and Germany having ineffective administrations. Meanwhile, the ‘Brussels bureaucracy’ of the EU is still advocating for the same failed policies of the old Biden administration.

Mr Orbán is of the opinion that the solution to that issue is to vote new people, patriotics into power on the Old Continent, a process that has started wth the European Parliamentary elections last June.
