Miklós Szánthó, Director General of the Budapest-based think tank Center for Fundamental Rights talked to the American cable news channel One America News Network (OAN) about the upcoming CPAC Hungary conference, the third of its instalments, this year.
The event will take place on 25–26 April in Budapest, and, as we reported earlier, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán of Hungary is confirmed to be the keynote speaker, while Geert Wilders, the leader of the right-wing populist PVV party, the winners of last year’s election in the Netherlands, is confirmed to be one of the attendees.
Miklós Szánthó had this to say on OAN:
‘We do expect a lot of political leaders, party leaders, party chairmen, and, of course, congressmen, and other influential conservative leaders from the United States [to attend].
Two years ago, at the first CPAC Hungary, we declared our most important values, the three values of God, homeland, and the family. Last year, based on those values, we began to realize the nightmare of the liberals: the international cooperation of the national conservative forces. That’s why we chose the slogan “United we stand”.
This year, we are planning to go into action, to be the “woke busters,"
and to drain the swamp in Brussels before the European parliamentary elections, and hopefully to drain the swamp in Washington as well. Because we do hope that a new leader in the White House, most likely Donald Trump, will be able to bring stability and peace again to the Western civilization.'
In the interview, Szánthó stated that what the EU did to Hungary is a clear case of blackmail, and they are only punishing the country for political and ideological reasons. Before signing off, he also assured the anchor that they are ‘not alone’ in their fight against wokeism and the leftist agenda.
A Recap of CPAC Hungary 2023
The last CPAC Hungary took place on 4–5 May 2023 at the Bálna shopping and cultural centre in Budapest. PM Viktor Orbán was among the speakers last year as well, as were other sitting and former heads of government, namely Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili of Georgia and Former Prime Minister Andrej Babiš of the Czech Republic. Then-Minister of Justice Judit Varga and Minister of Foreign Affairs Péter Szijjártó of Hungary, as well as Former US Senator for Pennsylvania Rick Santorum, were also among the illustrious list of speakers. Meanwhile,
Former President Donald Trump of the United States sent an exclusive video message to the event.
Opposition to the woke ideology was a prominent theme of last year’s conference as well, with the venue being declared a ‘No Woke Zone’ for the duration of the event. PM Orbán stated in his keynote speech that ‘the antidote to the woke virus is in Hungary’.
