Tamás Deutsch, the leading candidate of Fidesz–KDNP in the 2024 European Parliament elections, declared that the list of candidates of the Hungarian governing parties has been finalized. Alongside numerous familiar figures, the list also includes several newcomers who will champion Hungary’s sovereignty in the forthcoming term.

Tamás Deutsch, the leading candidate for Fidesz–KDNP in the 2024 European Parliament (EP) elections, declared in a statement to MTI that the full list of candidates has been finalized. He confirmed that the team representing the Hungarian governing parties is ready to contest the EP elections in June.

According to Deutsch, Fidesz–KDNP is entering its most challenging term in the EP so far. He stressed that they will need to vigorously defend Hungary’s sovereignty against increasingly severe attacks.

The top candidate stated: ‘For this battle for our collective freedom, we had to assemble a winning team composition, comprising both seasoned and new fighters.’ He added: ‘If this competition were a sport where points were awarded based on the readiness of the players on the list, we would already be in the lead.’ He emphasized that the list demonstrates the robustness of the civic, national, and Christian Democratic camp. A team has been assembled that is poised to triumph in even tougher battles,

advocating for Hungarian national interests and staunchly defending Hungarian sovereignty with greater strength and effectiveness.

As Deutsch highlighted, Fidesz–KDNP’s 2024 EP list will remain a national representation, and now also includes new candidates from the Hungarian national communities of Vojvodina and Transcarpathia: Annamária Vicsek and Viktória Ferenc. He underscored the significance of this inclusion, especially in terms of expediting the EU accession process of the Western Balkans and contributing to the early end of the tragic Russian–Ukrainian war promptly while striving for peace. Tamás Deutsch emphasized that MEPs Andrea Bocskor and Andor Deli will persist in serving Hungarian national communities’ interests beyond the borders.

Tamás Deutsch also highlighted the uprising of farmers across Western Europe against the ‘poison-green ideological pressure from Brussels,’ underscoring that one of the paramount issues in the coming years will be the effective representation of farmers’ interests. He stressed the importance of strong representation of Hungarian farmers on the list,

noting the inclusion of Balázs Győrffy, President of the National Chamber of Agriculture, as crucial in this regard.

The top candidate for Fidesz emphasized that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has requested Balázs Hidvéghi to serve as a member of the Hungarian parliament following the conclusion of his term in the European Parliament. Meanwhile, Lívia Járóka, who has served as an MEP since 2004, will pursue her professional career in academia.

He further added that László Trócsányi had already announced earlier that he would not stand again in the 2024 European Parliament elections. Following the conclusion of his mandate, he intends to contribute to the success of Hungarian higher education by assuming the role of rector at Károli Gáspár University. Meanwhile, Edina Tóth will continue her career as an environmental specialist, leveraging her experience gained as an MEP and advisor.

The top candidate said he was honoured to have Olympic bronze medallist, three-time Paralympic champion, and world and European champion in para fencing Pál Szekeres as a member of the team. Additionally, he highlighted that Ádám Kósa, the current MEP and chairman of the International Sports Committee for the Deaf, will serve as one of Hungary’s most significant international sports diplomats.

According to Tamás Deutsch, the stakes are extremely high in the European Parliament elections. He emphasized: ‘If we are to safeguard Hungary’s freedom and sovereignty, Brussels requires change! To restore common sense within the European institutions, a breakthrough of right-wing-sovereigntist European forces is imperative in June.’

‘It’s time for the bureaucrats in Brussels to understand: we reject war, we uphold strict border controls, and we resist surrendering our children to gender activists. In this crucial fight, Hungarian citizens can only rely on the representatives of Fidesz–KDNP,’ Deutsch underlined.

Finally, Tamás Deutsch stressed that in June, the European right-wing and sovereigntist forces will have an unprecedented opportunity to form the largest group in the European Parliament. ‘We will be an integral part of this extensive right-sovereigntist cooperation,’ he concluded.
