Hungary is observing All Saints’ Day today, 1 November. In Székesfehérvár, Fejér County, the county and city leadership, along with members of the military, did so by remembering those who passed away while serving in the Hungarian Defence Forces.
As the city’s official website reports, the wreath-laying ceremony began at the Hosszút Cemetery in Székesfehérvár, where municipal government representative Erika Szontaghné Kovács and Tibor Wilmek, vice-president of the Fejér County Assembly, laid a wreath. After the event, Deputy Mayor Péter Róth and Tibor Wilmek, vice-president of the county council, laid flowers at the Szentlélek military cemetery. At the Russian military cemetery in Béke Square, Tamás Molnár, municipal councillor, and Tibor Wilmek, vice-president of the county, paid their respects.
Another wreath-laying ceremony took place at the Kornél Lánczos Secondary School building and barracks on Budai Road, in which Ferenc Békésiné, a local councillor, Tibor Wilmek, vice-president of the county, and Lajos Bordács, the school’s principal, took part.
The commemorations ended at the World War II memorial in the Town Hall Square. The last wreath-laying ceremony was attended by Member of Parliament Gábor Törő, President of the Fejér County Assembly Dr Krisztián Molnár, Vice President of the Fejér County Assembly Tibor Wilmek, Mayor Dr András Cser-Palkovics of Székesfehérvár, and several other local government representatives; as well as Colonel Rezső Balogh, Deputy Brigade Commander of the 51st Nagysándor József Brigade representing the Hungarian Defence Forces.
In Székesfehérvár, the city’s ecumenical commemoration is traditionally held in front of the Béla Road cemetery’s morgue. The Word of Comfort in Mourning and Remembrance will begin at 4 pm on Friday, 1 November. Mayor Cser-Palkovics will give the opening speech, and then the Reformed, Evangelical, Roman Catholic and Baptist churches will join the sermon. The Vox Mirabilis Chamber Choir conducted by Katica Zemlényi will also be participating in the commemorative ceremony.
