The acquisition allows GLS to offer fulfilment services to its customers both within Hungary and beyond. The aim of GLS is to expand its range of activities and opportunities, with outsourced e-commerce logistics serving as a key growth area, the company said in a statement released today.

The GLS Group, a leading package logistics provider in Europe and North America, has acquired the Hungarian company iLogistic, which specializes in providing comprehensive fulfilment services for e-commerce, announced GLS on Tuesday.

The value of the acquisition has not been disclosed.

According to the announcement, this step allows GLS to offer fulfilment services to its customers both within Hungary and beyond. The aim of GLS is to expand its range of activities and opportunities, with outsourced e-commerce logistics serving as a key growth area.

It was highlighted that iLogistic, which provides outsourced logistics services for online stores–such as packaging, inventory management, and returns handling–was already a reliable partner of GLS before the acquisition. Over the years, their cooperation has continuously strengthened, while GLS ensured the delivery of packages to customers.

Gergely Farkas, Managing Director of the Eastern European region of the GLS Group, emphasized in the statement that their strategic goal is to support the export capabilities of Hungarian merchants, for which outsourced logistics services provide an ideal new option.

Bálint Csereklyei, Managing Director of iLogistic, stated in the announcement that they are ready to set a new quality benchmark in the logistics industry together with GLS.

The GLS Group is one of Europe’s largest independent parcel logistics providers, with a strong local presence in almost every country on the continent. Additionally, it operates through its wholly-owned subsidiaries in Canada and the western United States. The company provides services in around 40 countries, with the GLS network comprising over 120 sorting facilities and more than 1,600 depots, supported by 36,600 delivery vehicles and 6,500 long-haul trucks. In the 2023/24 fiscal year, the GLS Group achieved record revenues of 5.6 billion euros and delivered 905 million parcels.

Publicly available company data indicates that the revenue of GLS General Logistics Systems Hungary Csomag-Logisztikai Ltd for the fiscal year from 1 April 2022, to the end of March 2023, was HUF 80.101 billion, compared to HUF 68.749 billion in the previous fiscal year. The company closed the 2022/23 fiscal year with a profit of HUF 21.738 billion, while the net profit for the previous year was HUF 18.717 billion.

iLogistic is one of Hungary’s largest fulfilment providers, offering warehouse management and logistics solutions since its foundation in 2016. In 2023, the company completed more than 1 million orders with the help of subcontracting partners, primarily GLS. Currently, iLogistic manages the goods flow of about 300 e-commerce companies daily, including some of the largest players in the Hungarian market, operating with a team of 100 and over 14,000 square metres of warehouse space. Alongside their significant role in the Hungarian market, approximately 10 per cent of their traffic now consists of international shipments, predominantly within the European Union.
