Hungary’s commitment to national security remains unwavering in the face of 21st-century challenges, Minister of Defence Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky stated at the inauguration of the new Cyberspace Operations Centre of the Military National Security Service.

The Military National Security Service works for the safety of the Hungarian people, ensuring it even amidst the challenges of the 21st century, stated Minister of Defence Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky during the dedication ceremony of the organization’s new Cyberspace Operations Centre on Monday, 2 October in Budapest.

He added that

the Military National Security Service is a ‘particularly prominent, especially important national asset,’

and its development and enhancement represent a significant milestone in the history of Hungarian military development. He reminded that the government began the development of the military years before the conflict in Ukraine. The minister reminded that since the 1950s, when the current facility of the Military National Security Service was the barracks of the radio reconnaissance regiment, technology has undergone tremendous changes, and adaptation is essential.

Incredibly fast-evolving IT networks now permeate our lives, infiltrating the military operations arena as well, he pointed out. The minister emphasized that the utilization of cyberspace for military operations necessitated the establishment of the Military National Security Service’s Cyberspace Operations Centre, where all knowledge and capabilities are gathered in one place.

Szalay-Bobrovniczky highlighted that the service provided by those working at the centre is unique because,

although it does not involve injuries or bloodshed, it entails continuous and constant work.

According to the minister, the centre will serve the safety of the Hungarian people amidst the challenges of the 21st century. The building was blessed by Brigadier General Tibor Berta, the Catholic field bishop, and Lieutenant Colonel László Mészáros, the Protestant army pastor.
