Balázs Orbán, the political director for the Hungarian Prime Minister, participated in a panel discussion at this year's Bálványos Summer Free University and Student Camp. He spoke about the current state of the European right, Viktor Orbán’s peace mission, and Hungarian foreign policy strategy. He mentioned that the Patriots for Europe political group, co-founded by Viktor Orbán, will be expanded in the near future, but he did not specify who the new members might be.

The 33rd annual Bálványos Summer Free University and Student Camp, commonly known as Tusványos, in Tusnádfürdő (Băile Tușnad), Transylvania, Romania, is already well underway. As in previous years, the main event will be Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s speech on Saturday morning. However, in the meantime, there are plenty of interesting programmes and round-table discussions for visitors to enjoy.

On Wednesday, Balázs Orbán, the political director of the Hungarian Prime Minister, participated in a discussion where he talked about, among other things, the balance of power in the European Parliament. According to a report by Mandiner, Orbán pointed out that if we add up the right-wing forces in the new EP, we can already talk about a majority, and that voter movements will sooner or later force further changes. The old parties may also have to adapt to this. He stated that the right is bigger and more united than before and it represents the people against misguided EU decisions. ‘The European right is the opposition of Brussels,’ he underlined.

According to the political director, the Patriots for Europe (PfE), co-founded by Viktor Orbán and currently the European Parliament’s third-largest political group,

will continue to grow in the coming period.

However, he did not specify which new members could be expected. Balázs Orbán highlighted that it was a significant step forward that three Central European member states had been able to create a political group, an accomplishment previously managed only by the founding states of the EU.

Of course, Viktor Orbán’s peace mission launched in early July was also mentioned, which has received a lot of unjustified criticism from Brussels. When asked whether Hungary was paying too high a price for the peace mission, Balázs Orbán said that the situation was tense and needed to be seen in an international context. He emphasized that the election of Donald Trump would be a ‘jackpot’ for Hungary. ‘Then, the world’s number one superpower would regard us as a strategic ally, and China, the second, would also consider us as such,’ Balázs Orbán stated.

The political director also noted that we are witnessing a change in the world order not seen in at least 500 years. He stated that the Western strategy now aims to suppress powers developing outside the West and to engage exclusively within its own bloc. ‘Blocization is pushing us to the periphery, into a buffer zone, cutting off our path to development,’ he said.

We are a small country, and our region is not as significant to the world today as it was around the time of the regime change. Therefore, we need a strategy that differentiates us and clearly demonstrates to the world that we have our own logic, intellectual traction, and political stability. To achieve this, we must present our views on matters such as war and migration,’

Balázs Orbán succinctly summarized the Hungarian foreign policy strategy.
