‘The government will no longer accept any criticism from the United States regarding the state of democracy, as they seek to exclude the most likely presidential candidate, Donald Trump, from the electoral competition,’ Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó declared on Thursday in Budapest.
During a joint press conference with his North Macedonian counterpart, when responding to questions from journalists about recent developments in US domestic politics, the minister called on every member of the United States administration to
‘spare Hungary their condescending remarks about the state of Hungarian democracy.’
‘From now on, we don’t want to hear from the Americans about how democracy works here, how institutions function, or what the rule of law entails,’ he stated. ‘Because if it’s possible to disqualify one of the top contenders in an election, then from now on, we won’t accept any criticism from this country regarding the functioning of our political system,’ he added.
Szijjártó also pointed out that the exclusion of Donald Trump would be very bad news because he is someone everyone can rely on when it comes to peacebuilding. He added that Trump was the only one in recent decades who was successful in tackling the situation in the Middle East. ‘We believe that if Donald Trump were the President of the United States, there would be peace in our vicinity, in our neighbourhood, very quickly. We are also convinced that
if Donald Trump had remained the President of the United States, this war would not have broken out,’
he stated. ‘So, for us peace-loving people, it would be particularly bad news if the efforts in the United States aimed at excluding the most likely presidential candidate were successful,’ he emphasized.
According to US media reports, a lawsuit has been filed by six Colorado voters, represented by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), claiming that Donald Trump should be removed from the election ballot. It is worth noting that CREW had previously received donations from the Democratic Alliance, a non-profit organization closely affiliated with the Democratic Party, which in turn had received substantial contributions from US billionaire businessman George Soros.
Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, also known as the Disqualification Clause, prohibits anyone who has taken an oath to support the US Constitution and subsequently engaged in insurrection or rebellion against it or provided assistance to its enemies from holding federal or state office.
