As the presidential race is nearing its end, both President Trump’s and Vice President Harris’ campaigns are focusing on the state of Pennsylvania with its crucial 19 electoral votes. Both candidates are having a lot of rallies there—that is, if they are allowed to do so uninterrupted.
President Trump was scheduled to have a rally in Allentown, Pennsylvania last week, on 29 October. Evidently, such an event requires road closures and plenty of other security procedures, especially given the attempted assassination of President Trump in the same state back on 13 July.
However, the Democrat Mayor of Allentown Matt Tuerk decided to take matters into his own hands and showed up at the scene to call off one of the road blockades in the morning of the event. The video of him being berated by a Trump campaign staffer in an explicit rant (who is seemingly about a foot taller than him) went viral on the social media site X. The video brought the ire and ridicule of Trump supporters online on the mayor.
In the video, the Trump staffer is making the claim that the city had already announced the road closures in a press statement, which were even noted in common digital map applications Google Maps and Apple Maps. The mayor, however, argued that the particular road closure in question, at the intersection of 7th Street and Hamilton, is hindering the access of voters to a ballot drop box.
Eventually, the local police came down on Trump’s side of the issue, and thus the campaign event could go on uninterrupted.
‘The Trump-deranged Democrat Mayor of Allentown tried to disrupt the buildout of President Trump’s rally, despite the campaign having proper permitting and approved road closures. We appreciate local law enforcement’s assistance in ensuring the rally was a major success,’ Trump campaign national press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement about the incident to Fox News Digital.
While the Democrats claim to be the protectors of democracy, this is not the first time they tried to abuse power to hurt a political opponent.
Back in March 2024, the Supreme Court in the liberal state of Colorado went as far as trying to prevent Donald Trump’s name from appearing on ballots for his involvement in a supposed ‘insurrection’ during the 6 January 2021 Capitol riot. A circuit judge in Illinois and the Secretary of State in Maine also followed suit. Thankfully, the US Supreme Court ruled these decisions to be unconstitutional in a unanimous verdict.
