Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has declared that the European Union is facing ‘difficult months’ ahead, as the bloc grapples with the implications of Donald Trump’s return to the White House. In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Orbán stated that Hungary had long anticipated Trump’s comeback and was prepared for the challenges it would bring. ‘We are continuously negotiating and will strike a good deal with the new US administration. As for the Brussels elite, they can reap what they have sown,’ he wrote.
Orbán highlighted that the first EU summit since Trump’s inauguration was held in Brussels on Monday, describing it as a ‘strange gathering’. He noted that while everyone in Brussels recognizes the approaching ‘Trump tornado,’ most still believe they can avoid its impact. ‘They won’t,’ he warned.
The Hungarian leader pointed to Trump’s swift actions in his first 14 days in office, which have already upended global dynamics. ‘In America, the gender madness has ended, the funding of globalist Soros organizations has ended, illegal migration has ended, and support for the Russo–Ukraine war has also ended. In short, everything that the Brussels bureaucrats have tried to force down our throats in recent years is over,’ Orbán wrote.
He also warned of broader changes to global trade, stating that the world must bid farewell to the established rules of international commerce. ‘President Trump will stand up for American interests, even against Europe. The European Union is facing difficult months, and the Brussels bureaucrats are in for a tough time,’ he cautioned.
Orbán stressed the importance of striking a ‘good deal’ with the US to preserve economic relations. ‘A truly good deal can only be made by those who not only know but also respect each other,’ he emphasized.
As the EU braces for the impact of Trump’s policies, Orbán’s warnings serve as a stark reminder of the need for strategic preparation and cooperation in an increasingly unpredictable global environment.
