Prime Minister Viktor Orbán of Hungary is a frequent guest at Mar-a-Lago. This is the third time he visited Former US President Donald Trump’s famous estate in Palm Beach, Florida just this year. However, this was the first time the two statesmen have met in person since Trump was elected to his second, non-consecutive term on 5 November.
PM Orbán was quite frugal with words when sharing his meeting with the President-elect on his social media. He posted an image with the non-descriptive caption ‘An afternoon in Mar-a-Lago’, and another photo of the event with the words ‘America: The future has started’, while writing ‘A meeting with Donald Trump and Elon Musk in America’ in the post.
As the long-reigning Prime Minister also revealed, he had met Elon Musk as well. Musk, owner of companies such as Tesla, SpaceX, and X (formerly Twitter), is the richest man in the world, with a net worth of around $350 billion, and was a major supporter of President Trump during his campaign. He will also be a part of his incoming administration, co-heading the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) with Vivek Ramaswamy, looking to cut wasteful public spending.
Musk has met with Former President of the Republic Katalin Novák of Hungary multiple times, sharing a concern for the low birth rates in Western countries, but this is the first time he and PM Orbán have been at the same public event.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó of Hungary was also at the Mar-a-Lago gathering. He wrote, ‘A pleasant afternoon at Mar-a-Lago: a long talk with Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and [United States National Security Advisor nominee] Mike Waltz.’
State Secretary Responsible for Government Communication Eszter Vitályos shared the longest message about the illustrious meeting on social media. She wrote:
‘Viktor Orbán and Péter Szijjártó have met with Donald Trump and Elon Musk. We share the same values and believe in similar policies. God, country, and family are core values for every conservative, as they are the foundation of our societies and the compass for all our efforts. It is what binds us, true Americans, true Hungarians, true patriots worldwide. Our political communities have the same goal: to put our own country first. Let’s make America and Europe great again!’
While this is the first time Prime Minister Orbán and President Trump has met since the US presidential election in November, the President-elect reportedly called Orbán after his great comeback victory.
