Prime Minister Viktor Orbán opened the European Political Community (EPC) summit, emphasizing that this is the largest diplomatic event in Hungary’s history. In his speech, he highlighted the security, migration, and economic challenges Europe faces, as well as the significance of the US presidential election for transatlantic relations.

The EPC summit in Budapest brings together the Heads of State and Government from 42 countries, along with leaders from the European Union, NATO, and the Council of Europe. The Hungarian Prime Minister noted the special importance of this meeting as Europe confronts numerous serious challenges, including the war in Ukraine, conflicts in the Middle East, and growing instability in North Africa.

PM Viktor Orbán warned that the global economy is once again facing the dangers of division and block formation, which could fundamentally threaten Europe’s peace and prosperity. ‘The situation Europe finds itself in is difficult, complex, and dangerous,’ he opined.

‘The answers we provide now will shape Europe’s future for decades,’ PM Orbán stated. He outlined the summit’s purpose as a platform for participants to explore ways for Europe to assume greater responsibility and to enhance its efforts to secure its own interests and safety.

The Hungarian Prime Minister pointed out that this is the fifth meeting of European Political Community leaders since October 2022. ‘It is an honour for Hungary to carry on the initiative started by Mr Emmanuel Macron and to host this summit on European security policy,’ the Prime Minister highlighted.
