Speaking on public Kossuth Radio, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán sharply criticized those who had previously promoted war and sanctions, claiming these policies have proven costly for both Hungary and the world. According to Orbán, if Donald Trump had been in office, the war in Ukraine might have been averted, as a strong US leader could have kept peace. He added that Trump’s recent election victory is a global turning point that might influence peace efforts, aligning with Hungary’s interests in stability.

Orbán highlighted that Hungary has always been a proponent of peace and argued that the ongoing conflict has left Europe financially burdened. With Europe unable to sustain war efforts independently, Hungary stands firm in its commitment to adapt to new global realities.

Assessing Budapest’s current international summit, Orbán expressed pride in Hungary’s historical and cultural appeal, calling it a successful platform for global leaders to engage in dialogue. Reflecting on his discussions with leaders including Presidents Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump, Orbán noted that his predictions about the war had proven accurate, attributing this foresight to effective communication and understanding.

The PM implied that the United States stop financing the Ukraine war, adding that Europe will not be able to finance it on its own.

Looking forward, Orbán stated that Hungary is prepared for change, emphasizing his government’s 21-point economic action plan designed to improve citizens’ lives. With shifting global dynamics, he expects the Sándor Demján Housing Programme and increased wages to advance substantially, noting that Hungary’s independent stance has paved the way for these opportunities.

Orbán also addressed Europe’s energy crisis, highlighting former European Central Bank President Mario Draghi’s remarks on high costs that threaten European competitiveness. Nevertheless, Hungary’s affordable energy provides a competitive edge, reinforcing Orbán’s call for a new regulatory approach in Europe.

Concerning migration, Orbán applauded Italy’s recent laws aimed at controlling migration but criticized the EU’s likely rejection of them. He argued that Hungary faces similar EU pressures on migration policy but remains steadfast, backed by strong public support based on the national consultation survey. With Hungary’s ‘sensible majority’ behind him, Orbán pledged to protect national interests and encouraged citizens to participate in strengthening Hungary’s independent stance against EU centralization.
