Viktor Orbán arrived in Bejing on 8 July as part of a sequence of visits many refer to as his ‘peace mission’. Last week he met with presidents Zelenskyy and Putin. Both meetings revolved around the need for peace.
It is important for Hungarians that China advocates for peace in the world, stated Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Monday in Beijing, where he met with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The Prime Minister recalled that Hungarians have been living under the shadow of war for two and a half years. The Hungarian people are peace-loving, he nailed down, adding that Hungary strives for peace, balance, and harmony, and therefore, ‘we are always on the side of peace, and never on the side of war,’ he said. ‘It is of great significance’ that China advocates for a world without war, but with peace, he declared. ‘Regarding the conflict occurring in Hungary’s neighbourhood, we highly appreciate your peace initiative,’ said Viktor Orbán, addressing Xi Jinping.
He recalled that the Chinese President visited Hungary two months ago.
The Prime Minister described that meeting as historically significant.
He added that serious agreements were made, but more importantly, the friendship between the two peoples was established for several generations, as Xi Jinping’s visit was convincing and cordial, demonstrating to the Hungarian people China’s goodwill and respect towards Hungary. ‘Several generations will still benefit from that visit, from the memory of your visit to Budapest,’ declared Viktor Orbán.
He thanked the Chinese President for elevating the level of relations between the two countries. ‘Even in the past two months, we have been continuously working to fill this framework with content,’ he said.
Viktor Orbán congratulated Xi Jinping on China’s firmness and stability, which ‘in this turbulent global politics,’ means a lot to the whole world.
