The goal of the US and NATO is, overall, a de facto military confrontation with Russia, Lavrov opines.
The confrontational military policy of the United States and NATO towards Russia can have catastrophic consequences, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in a video message published on Monday to the participants of the Moscow conference on the prevention of the proliferation of nuclear weapons.
‘Amidst the West’s efforts to stop Russia, a serious threat is posed by the US and NATO’s policy, the goal of which, as a whole, is a de facto military confrontation with us. It is clear that this would involve a direct clash of nuclear powers, which can have catastrophic consequences. We must regularly send warning signals in this regard,’ Lavrov stressed. ‘However, instead of taking them seriously, the West maliciously distorts these signals and accuses us of using grim rhetoric,’ he added.
He also highlighted that the five major powers must prevent any armed conflict between countries possessing nuclear weapons in accordance with their declaration on the inadmissibility of nuclear war.
