The world’s most powerful man, US President Donald Trump, and the world’s richest man, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk have been closely cooperating with each other for months—no wonder their political opposition has been losing their minds worldwide. Now, they have sat down with Fox News host Sean Hannity for an exclusive interview as well, allowing a glimpse into their relationship. The interview aired on Tuesday night, 18 February on Fox News.

At the beginning, Hannity brought up the strange turn of events, per which Musk’s social media company X ended up paying President Trump $10 million in a settlement. President Trump took legal action against the platform, known as Twitter back then, before Musk took it over. The civil case has only just come to a resolution. Despite that, Musk professed in the interview that he loves the President, and he believes he has been very unfairly attacked by the press.

Musk then went on to describe the essence of his character, saying: ‘I’m a technologist. I try to make technology that improves the world’. He then jokingly referred to himself as President Trump’s ‘tech support guy’.

President Trump noted that he is aware there has been a coordinated effort by the American mainstream media to drive him and Elon Musk apart. However, he believes that those efforts were quite frail; and stipulated that the media does not have the influence over the American people it once had. ‘I used to think they were good at it [influencing the public], but they’re actually bad at it. Because if they were good at it, I would’ve never been President,’ he said.

As for the frantic reaction from Democrat politicians to the cost-cutting efforts of DOGE, Musk simply said: ‘They wouldn’t be complaining so much if we weren’t doing something useful’. He then pointed out the irony that while Democrats like to describe him as an unelected oligarch, they are actually defending a network of unelected bureaucrats who are actively trying to subvert President Trump’s agenda, and thus, the will of the people. He also shared that he often thinks about how Vice President Kamala Harris got over 90 per cent of the vote in Washington, DC, which he believes is a testament to how entrenched the deep state Democratic power is in government.

President Trump then shared the story of how he negotiated down the price for the construction of the new Air Force 1 aircraft, which would have cost 50 per cent more if he had taken the original offer. The two men revealed that accepting a contractor’s original offer used to be standard practice in the government, which meant that ‘the American taxpayers have been getting a terrible deal’ in the past years, as Musk put it.

The payments made by USAID, which have been paused by the incoming administration, were discussed next. Musk revealed that the American government have even been giving money to the Islamist terror group Taliban in Afghanistan through USAID. In the broader picture, DOGE’s aim is to cut $1 trillion in government spending, since the new administration has inherited a federal budget with $2 trillion in deficit, which Musk does not believe is sustainable.

However, President Trump assured everyone that he is keeping his campaign promise of not cutting social security, such as Medicare and Medicaid spending. He will only look to make those programmes more efficient by removing fraud and payments to illegal immigrants from them.
