Senior Fellow at the Center for Fundamental Rights and top contender to be the next US Ambassador to Hungary Bryan Leib has recently been interviewed by the Hungarian state television M1. In the interview, he covered a wide array of important topics, such as a potential ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia with Hungarian involvement, illegal immigration, and more.
‘It is time for the United States to return to diplomacy grounded in respect, dialogue and truth, particularly in our relationship with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s government,’ Mr Leib proclaims in his recently published opinion piece about the current state of US–Hungary relations for The Washington Times.
This is not the first time the American Embassy engages in such odd conduct. Its anti-government billboard campaign in April 2023 was similarly negative, short-lived and ineffective.
‘“There is not enough money in the world for us to put our children and grandchildren into the hands of LGBT activists,” said Orbán earlier this month. We are all in a very bad place when basic moral sanity like that is an act of uncommon courage…It is unlikely that Orbán will show up at the American ambassador’s queer picnic. In civilizational terms, the prime minister will be missing a tea party on the deck of the Titanic.’
‘In America, we have so many horrible things happening, you know, with the gender ideologies, the LGBTQ, and the open border, and all these different things. So, when we conservatives in America look around for friends, we don’t have to look much further than Hungary to see that you guys are doing a lot of things right that we’d like to replicate.’
All MPs for the ruling Fidesz-KDNP coalition, as well as some for the left-wing opposition, were absent from the extraordinary parliamentary session called for Monday, thus the vote on Sweden’s NATO membership did not meet the threshold to be legally binding. US Ambassador David Pressman was also present, but then left the House disappointed.
